WINGS & WHEELS 2021 - 26TH & 27TH JUNE

So here we are again, another great weekend of racing, camping, great company, and barrels of fun at North Weald Airfield for their fun weekend of everything RC and more.  Sadly we all missed out last year due to the small inconvenience of Covid-19, but with safety measures in place, we were determined not to miss out this year!

Another great round of heats from this group, with two good wins for 365 Sleepy, and a win too for 383 Divvy.  Again, there was plenty of action, both with racing and wrecking, and the kids showing they can teach the adults a thing or two!

What the B Final lacked in numbers, they certainly made up for in action!  339 Abbie Pullen  and 509 Daisy Johnson battled for the win, causing chaos and destruction in their wake!  Whilst battling with each other, they picked off all the opposition along the way, creating much laughter for all those watching.  Abbie finally gained the upper hand and pulled ahead of Daisy, to cross the line and take the chequered flag, well done Abbie; and well done Daisy too, you both provided great entertainment for the crown watching, and that, after all, was what we were here to do.

The A Final was also a tremendous race, with just as much action and excitement as the B!  With over 30 cars out there intent on stopping him, the unstoppable 183 Shaye Hunter still managed to cross the finish line, a clear 10 laps ahead of 365 Sleepy383 Divvy came home in 3rd place, with 58 Darren Howard taking 4th place on splits, and 5th place went to 403 Dan Jordan.

Well done all, the crowd were impressed and we managed to raise a lot of interest in our beloved sport.

With day one completed, it was time to chill out and enjoy the evening.  for a few of us, my self included, it was the pleasure of a short drive home, a hot shower, and feet up!  For the majority, it was time to settle into camp life, a live band, a firework display, a few drinks and plenty of laughs.  Whichever, everyone was happy after a successful day of show-casing.

A huge, huge thank you to "Big Phil's Models" for sponsoring today's meeting and providing some great prizes for thr winners.

Many thanks to all who provided photos from today's meeting and show, much appreciated.

Sunday 27th June 2021

After a successful day 1 of the weekend, it was now time to aim for the same success on day two.  Today we raced Bangers, 1300 Stock Cars and F2 Stocks.  Some drivers from yesterday had gone home, but today we were joined by yet more RC drivers, all fresh and ready to show off their skills to the adorning public!

BANGERS

Today we had 60 Bangers, split into two heats.  There was some great livery again today, but without a doubt, the Smart Car Awards had to go to the outstanding colours of Ross Mason, and the amazing art work of Daisy Johnson; so much talent in one so young, this girl has a future, her vehicle was fantastic!  Congratulations Daisy, everyone agreed you deserved your award, without apprehension.

The Best Scratch Build Award went to Morgan Pritchard for his colourful pick-up truck, another great creation!

So, the early awards sorted, timr to get racing!

What a great pair of finals!  The B Final had some powerful, close racing with Brett Osborne and Phil Roggerman battling each other for 3rd place; Brett taking the place on splits.  Caitlyn Howard pushed hard and managed to claim 2nd place, but taking the winner was Sean Foley, not usually known for his winning ways!  Congratulations Sean!

The A Final had a spectacular finish, with the top three drivers all coming home on splits!  There was just over one second between Kenton Walker, and Dan Morgan, who were placed 1st and 2nd respectfully, and Alec Quarman placed 3rd, just 4 and 1/2 seconds behind Dan!  A brilliant finish to a brilliant day of racing, Congratulations all, you are all so special!

Very close racing in rounds one and two, with Luke Poole snatching the win from Brett Osborne in round one on splits, and Divvy snatching the win from Luke in round two!  Round three saw another win for Luke, with an amazing lead of 12 laps from Brett!  There may have been a small number of F2's, but these guys had so much fun, the only two still fit to go out for the final was Luke and Alfie Parish!  These two lads are great friends, but have a rivalry on the track.  They battled hard at the beginning together, with both lads holding the lead at various points.  However, Luke found his mojo and pulled ahead, leaving Alfie to push so hard to keep up with him.  Luke went on to take the win eight laps in front, and Alfie crossed the line to take a very worthy 2nd place.  Congratulations boys, you made this final magical!

The DD was yet another fun event and a fitting end to a wonderful weekend.  Last Junior running was Brandon Turner, and the last Senior was Andy Paterson, who also went on to collect the trophy for Best Wrecked in the DD.  Well done AndyBest wrecked in the A Final was Dan Presland, Best Wrecked in the B Final was Peter GilderBailey Mabbott collected the trophy for Hardest Trying Junior, who despite constant mechanical problems all weekend, never gave up and never stopped smiling!  Congratulations to all our trophy winners.

And congratulations to all our weekend drivers, you have been amazing!  You make all the hard work and preparation so worthwhile, you did us proud.  Brentwood Raceway have the best RC family ever!

On that note, I'll leave you with one last photo, one that we feel sums the whole weekend up.  Taken on Saturday evening, these kids never knew each other until they started racing, just look at them now!  Here's looking forward to Wings and Wheels 2022!
