AUTISM AWARENESS I
31st March 2018
For Autism Awareness Week 2018, a whole meeting was arranged, with sponsorship, on-line raffle, prize raffle and donations. Sam, Jamie and Simon worked extremely hard on promoting the meeting, along with another regular racer John Hillyard, who also has a grandson with Autism. With so much publicity, we ended up with over 100 drivers booking in for the meeting! The track was rammed, but the atmosphere was electric! Full of excitement and support, and as always here at Brentwood, plenty of banter! Fifty amazing prizes were donated for the raffle, with over 1300 tickets being sold! An on-line bonus ball raffle for a complete car was sold out within an hour of being launched and was won on number 39, which was bought by Geoff Hughes. Support was astounding! Indeed, young Peter himself encouraged family and friends to sponsor him to race, and raised the grand total of £150! Congratulations Peter, a very selfless act, raising money for other to get the help that you yourself sometimes cannot get! A true hero and the ripe young age of 10!
Around £2000 was raised by the end of the evening, and pennies are still coming in! With the arrival of the new Autism Awareness wrist bands, more sales will increase the total even more, and anyone wishing to add a donation may do so at the club at any time! Congratulations guys, your hard work really paid off, and I believe that next year, we'll top that total! Roll on 2019!

Words cannot express how grateful we all are to so many being so generous! thank you so much!
Well, the day may have been damp, dark and miserable, but spirits in the cow shed were the highest ever! Tonight was all about raising money for AUTISM AWARENESS, and I think tonight did just that! With a record number of drivers booking in for this meeting, including our regulars and travellers from far and wide, the marquee AND the gazebo were erected to provide enough pitting space! As the meeting got under way, the heavens opened, but no matter how hard Mother Nature tried, she couldn't put a damper on the proceedings!
With so many drivers (104 to be precise!), the meeting held a record number of heats, nine in all for each round! With NINE finals and the DD, we were expecting an extremely late finish, but Midge & Divvy kept on top of it all, and even with the break to draw the raffle, still managed to get the meeting finished by 12-30 to 1am ish! Well done guys, you worked hard, but it was all for a worthy cause.

Some great racing there from all our Juniors, as per usual, but a great night for 999 Peter Townsend, who raced under sponsorship and raised £150 for Autism Awareness! Well done Peter, you did everyone proud! For 912 Charlie Whitby and 734 Jimmy Farquhar, it was a great start to their RC careers, being as tonight was the first meeting for them both, and they walked away with 1st and 2nd trophies, well done boys, hopefully we'll see a lot more of you guys in the very near future! 339 Abbie Pullen collected the 3rd place trophy, and as the top four all finished on splits, Midge rapidly waved his magic wand and produced another trophy for 53 Harry Palmer! Well done to you all.

Great racing through plenty of carnage! Well done guys. In the finals, great wins for 540 Sam Hayward and 375 Taylor-Jay Liles, and a fantastic run in the A Final crowned 401 Craig Watson champion! 77 Josh Mackey came so close, having to settle for 2nd place on splits, and 365 Sleepy came home in 3rd place. Some real close racing there, and likewise, some really close finishing! A couple of heat wins for 157 Reece Brown, but 233 Dave Nash just pipped him to the post in round two, to take the win on splits! Heat two was dominated by the youngsters, with 77 Josh Mackey claiming a win and two 2nd's! The Aylward brothers had a win apiece, with Josh hot on their rear bumper! A great run there for 106 Phil Jones, almost a hat-trick, but 22 John Hillyard just snatched the third round win on splits! A couple of wins for 403 Daniel Jordan, and a resounding win from 686 Richard Goodacre, with a lead of 3 laps! Well-done guys!

So, a full house for Koonta, three heat wins and the final! 77 Josh Mackey almost caught him, with an extremely close finish on splits, a great effort, Josh! Finishing 3rd, just a lap behind was 177 Scott Chopping, and 106 Phil Jones came home in 4th place. A great final guys, well-done!
The remaining B - E finals were all equivalent to each other, just the top points scorers making it to the A final. A great win each for 183 Shaye Hunter, 146 Jack Aylward, 383 Divvy and 966 Mark Whittle, well-done boys. A great conclusion to the 1300's tonight!

The evening concluded as always with the DD, and with over 60 bangers entering the arena for the final showdown, carnage is an understatement! With wreckage strewn all around the track, it was a wonder anyone managed to continue moving! 734 Jimmy Farquhar, having enjoyed his debut success in the heats and final, continued his joy by becoming last junior running, with 427 Neil Higgins taking the overall DD win. Best entertainer was presented to 461 Paul Aylward and Best Wrecked was awarded to 96 Wiggle! Well-done guys, a great finish to a fantastic evening!
SMART CAR AWARDS
Picked by the original Mr Lee12 himself, Lee Bishop, making his first visit to Brentwood, the Smart Car Awards went to 25 Sam Townsend and 53 Harry Palmer, congratulations! Very fitting that Sam should receive this award, and very deserved too!
