ALLOY BANGERS ALTERNATIVE WORLD FINAL,
STEEL STOX WORLD FINAL & ABS BANGERS

Sunday 21st November 2021

A chilly November day set the scene for the Alloy Bangers Alternative World Final, sponsored by Refined Ali RC Car Parts (Ben Germany) and the first ever Steel Stox World Final, sponsored by P & P Groundworks (aka Pete Bowley); but the atmosphere was warm enough to melt even the coldest polar bear!  In addition to the Alloys and the Steel Stox, we also ran the ABS Bangers, just for the sheer fun of it!!

50 Alloy Bangers, 12 Steel Stox, 47 ABS Bangers

What a fantastic Final!  Very worthy of the trophies!  Shaye Hunter drove expertly, as always, to take the win and the title of Alternative Alloy World Champion 2021, finishing with a 7 lap lead!  Brilliant racing Shaye, congratulations!  Get that gold paint in place!

Taylor-Jay Liles kept his cool and came through the carnage to finish in 2nd place, another great drive, congratulations Taylor!

Crossing the line to take 3rd place was Alfie Court, snatching the trophy from Rock in 4th and Alec Quarman in 5th on splits!  So close between these three, congratulations Alfie, an exceptional drive from you!

Luke Poole finished in 6th place and took the trophy of Top Junior, this lad has such a future ahead of him in RC, and he's still only 11 years old!  Congratulations Luke, very proud of you!

As well as the terrific racing taking place, there was plenty of wrecking too, and the top finishers did so well to pick their way through all the carnage!

Congratulations to you all; and we now look forward to seeing Shaye defend his title again next year!  Roll on 2022!

STEEL STOX WORLD FINAL
862665 (2).jpg

We now move onto the newly formed Steel Stox, and their first ever World Championship.  This formula was launched in May of this year when we finally returned to racing after lock down.  As the major developer of the cars, Pete Bowley of P & P Groundworks sponsored todays meeting, and as he was taking part himself, he was hoping to take one of his own trophies home with him!  With 12 cars in attendance, we split them into 2 groups to race for their grid positions in the 12 car final.

HEAT TWO - ROUND THREE

1st - 14 Julian Poole - 40 / 3m 4.48

2nd - 203 Jack Booker - 40 / 3m 7.93

3rd - 383 Divvy - 39 / 3m 8.64

4th - 375 Taylor-Jay Liles - 36 / 3m 15.58

6th - 662 Midge - 29 / 3m 11.16

Another spectacular win for Luke Poole, taking his hat-trick win from Shaye Hunter on splits!  His Dad, Julian Poole, did the same in heat two, snatching the win from Jack Booker on splits!  Alec Quarman and Divvy both finished in 3rd place, and everyone was left wondering who exactly would take the the gold roof in the final?  Could Alec be returning to his former glory days and sport a gold roof once again?  Would Shaye collected the gold paint, as he has in so many other formulas?  Could Jack repeat his success of earlier this year in the Reliant Robins?  Or could it be our very own protégé, Luke?  Imagine a World Champion at the age of eleven!  There was no odds on favourite for this one!

Once again, points were added and grid positions calculated, and the final grid was as follows -

Pole - 103 Luke Poole

p2 - 183 Shaye Hunter

p3 - 54 Alec Quarman

p4 - 203 Jack Booker

p5 - 14 Julian Poole

p6 - 383 Divvy

p7 - 913 Brett Osborne

p8 - 358 Mark Brewster

p9 - 375 Taylor-Jay Liles

p10 - 195 Pete Bowley

p11 - 662 Midge

p12 - 274 Nigel Smith

An impressive looking grid for the Steel Stox World Final

STEEL STOX WORLD FINAL

This was a race worthy of its World Final status!  The pace was extreme and the pressure showed on the faces of the drivers!  Shaye Hunter seems to thrive under pressure and starting on the front row of the grid was a great advantage for him; he soon crept into the lead, and once there, gradually pulled away from those snapping at his heels!  In just a little over four and a half minutes he'd completed 60 laps and crossed the line to become the first ever Steel Stox World Champion 2021!  Congratulations Shaye, an excellent performance and a well deserved win!

Divvy, Jack Booker, Julian Poole and Luke Poole all finished on splits, with Luke also taking the trophy for Top Junior, well done all, but especially well done to Luke, be patient lad, that gold roof will be your one day, and if you continue racing like you have today, you won't have to wait too long!

ABS BANGERS

We also ran ABS Bangers today, just for the fun of it!  It also means that the Alloy Drivers and Steel Stox drivers are given more repair and charging time, vital when you're racing World Finals!

There were heat wins for Shaye Hunter (x2), Alfie Court, Koonta (x2), and Jack Booker; amid the usual crashing and follow-ins as per usual in the bangers!

The B Final came to an abrupt end when the computer crashed, but as we were well past the half way mark, we declared the win, with Midge (42 laps) taking the chequered flag in a rare display of racing!  Phil Roggerman (35 laps) took 2nd place with Kerry Goldstone (33 laps) coming home in 3rd.  In 4th place was Tony Castleton (33 laps), 5th place went to Bradley Curtis (26 laps) and crossing the finish line in 6th place was Ryan Garrett-Lines (26 laps).  Coming home in 7th place was Wayne O'Neill (26 laps), with Liam Hawkins (25 laps) taking 8th; and Harry Palmer (23 laps) taking 9th.  In 10th place was John Baddeley (22 laps), 11th was Brad Evans (21 laps) and 12th was Molly (20 laps).  13th place went to Bobby Granger (19 laps), 14th was Owen Levett (16 laps) and in 15th place was Shannon Lewis (15 laps).

Congratulations to all our ABS drivers today, hope you enjoyed your racing.

The ABS Banger DD was won by 545 Owen Levett, well done Owen, not bad for a 7 year old up against all the big boys!

Many thanks once again to Ben Germany and Pete Bowley for their generous sponsorship today; very much appreciated.

Congratulation to all our trophy winners, an excellent days racing in all formulas.

Many thanks to Cheryl Palmer for running the shop and the tea bar, an extremely busy day for Cheryl, but always with a joke and a smile!

And many thanks to all of you for supporting the club and reading this report!
