AUTISM AWARENESS, 7th April 2024

On an extremely windy Sunday morning we arrived at the track full of anticipation and excitement!   This annual meeting is one that everyone looks forward to, with the main aim of the day to raise money for the Autism Society, more specifically, RAGS, an Autistic support group based in Romford.  Autism is a condition that effects so many people, and quite a few of our members are effected by this, so this is a charity very close to our hearts.

Many thanks to all who attended today, and many many thanks to all who donated, whether it was cash, raffle prizes, or just helping the day run smoothly, always appreciated more than words can say.

JUNIOR BANGERS

We had 17 Juniors racing today, all vying for the coveted Autism trophy.  Well, with one exception, Jimmy Roggerman, who, before the meeting had event started, stated he had no intention of completing laps, just smashing as many cars (including his own!) to pieces, and Jimmy, being Jimmy, did not disappoint!  By the end of the first heat, he'd already lost the boot of his car, and this pattern continued for the rest of the meeting! GO JIMMY GO!

Jimmy Roggerman, as promised went wrecking in style, completing just 19 laps throughout the entire three heats, though I'm not sure if he damaged his own car more than his targets!

SENIOR BANGERS

47 Bangers here today, not as many as we have had in the past for this meeting, but with the economic climate such as it is, we weren't expecting the 80 - 100+ drivers we have had in the past.  However, as the saying goes, Quality, not Quantity is what really matters, and as long as we raise a reasonable sum of money for Autism, we're happy!

We had a good mixture of drivers, some regulars, some occasional, some newbies and some who'd put in the miles to join us.  Whether you came from near or far, we love to see you, we appreciate your support, and we welcome you with open arms, thank you for coming today.

The Bangers were split into two heats, and here are their results...

Three straight wins for Knobby, with leads of 8, 6, and 2 laps respectfully!  Well done Knobby!   All heats were carnage  and respect to all the drivers who fought their way through to finish their race.  A special mention for Dal Foster, who despite having a huge target on his extra long stretch limo, still managed to get the beast around the track and complete 38, 4, and 25 laps!  No easy feat!  Well done Dal!

So the battle was on between the two heat winners, Koonta and Knobby!  These two come across each other often, and both know how each other races, so the battle, as expected, was hard fought!  With over 5 minutes passing, Koonta eventually took the win to be crowned Autism Champion 2024, with Knobby having to settle for 2nd place.  Crossing the line in 3rd was Neil Higgins, AKA Nelly, on splits with Chris Grey in 4th.  Luke Poole took 5th place on splits from Reece Dack, and in 7th was Dan Morgan.  Taking 7th place on splits was Alfie Lee, with Phil Roggerman being pushed down to 9th, and in 10th place was Alec Quarman.  A brilliant race, packed with action, and a great finish to Autism Awareness 2024.  Roll on 2025 for more of the same!

JUNIOR 1300 STOCK CARS

It is so good to see the youngsters taking part in what is generally thought of as a adult formula.  Since launching the Junior 1300 Stock Car club Championship here at Brentwood, we have seen numbers increase with these future stars having something of their own to aim for.

Today we had 8 of our Juniors racing, and they all put on a great show!

Koonta really was on form today, not content with 3 heat wins in the bangers, he also took 3 heat wins in the 1300 Stock Cars!  Like I said, is there no stopping him?  Paul Kenealy and Chris Grey shared 2nd and 3rd in all three heats, and once again, the racing was exceptional.  Well done all.

A great win for Carl Maslen in the B Final, with 2nd place going to Marc Warner on splits from George Flack, who settled for 3rd.

No surprise that Koonta completed a full house and raised the chequered flag once again for the A Final.  Big respect has to go to young Luke Poole who came home in 2nd place, just one lap behind Koonta!  Finishing in 3rd place, just one lap down on his son, was Julian Poole, and coming home in 4th place was Chris Grey.  Crossing the finish line in 5th was Paul Kenealy, with Darren Howard coming home in 6th.  7th place went to Dal Foster, with Karl Dack finishing 8th and Phil Harvey in 9th.  A brilliant race guys, well done.

DD

The track was full for the DD today, so much so, that drivers were having to squeeze their way in to stand track side!  Never seen it so crowded before!  The carnage was extensive, with follow-ins and humongous hits all over the track.  The banter was loud and the cheering deafening, as one by one, the cars were destroyed!  Brandon Turner was the last Junior running so picked up a trophy, and the last Senior was Louis Farnell, well done guys, a smashing finish to a great meeting!
