ALL VOLVO DUTCH OPEN, DRIFTS & RELIANT ROBINS
Time once again to go Dutch! This is the second year of running this event, kindly sponsored by Rob "Norbs" Gymer, and it was great to see some more new faces making their debut in the cow shed.
414 Marc Zanders was here today to defend his Junior title, but sadly 401 Craig Watson, Senior Champion for 2018 was unable to attend, leaving the competition open for a new Champion this year.
As with our meeting last night, stickers were still on sale for Matt Newsom #16, with all proceeds supporting Matt and and his family at this distressing time. Keep fighting Matty #16.
JUNIOR BANGERS
We had eight Juniors racing today, with 731 Harvey Mitchell, 716 Nicola Want, 116 Luke Want, 829 Alfie Parish and 331 Dinky Donovan all ready to challenge 414 Marc Zanders for his title! 414 Marc got off to a great start by taking the win in round one, then 731 Harvey came through to take the wins in rounds two and three. With all to play for in the Final, it was anybody's guess who the 2019 Champion would be! 414 Marc was hoping to retain the title in his last season racing as a Junior, but all the others were hungry for a title win! After a few scary moments, 414 Marc came through in time to take the crown for the second year running, with 731 Harvey finishing in 2nd place and 331 Dinky coming home in 3rd! Well done boys, a great race!

SENIOR BANGERS
With last year's Champion, 401 Craig Watson, not here today, the title was up for grabs, and there were plenty of worthy contenders! Thirty five drivers, all vying to take the crown! The racing was hard and fast, with the lead changing many times throughout all the races.
403 Daniel Jordan took the first round in heat one, with 5 laps to spare from 203 Jack Booker. In round two, the two met again, this time on the finish line on splits, with 403 Daniel just a nose ahead of 203 Jack, to take the win once again. It was all change in round three, with 117 Karl Dack taking the win two laps ahead of 183 Shaye Hunter.
In round one, heat two, 472 Nigel Walker took the win 4 laps ahead of 33 Joe Maslen. 173 Kenton Walker raised the chequered flag in the next two rounds, eight laps ahead of 472 Nigel Walker in round two; and four laps ahead of 33 Joe Maslen in round three.
Great racing from all the guys, as always.

Moving on and all thirty five drivers were put together for an All-In Final. Again the racing was hard and fast, but with some drivers deciding they'd rather turn it around and go wrecking! Pushing their way through the carnage, the leaders fought hard to reach the finish line. 117 Karl Dack came home in fifth place with 570 Rob Gymer finishing a lap ahead to take fourth. In third place was 203 Jack Booker, and 173 Kenton Walker took second place five laps ahead, and two laps behind the winner. Crossing the line and raising the chequered flag to become the new Champion was 403 Daniel Jordan. Congratulations Dan, a worthy win!

DRIFTS
Returning to Brentwood RC today were the 1/10th scale Drifts, which seem to be increasing in popularity of late. We had ten Drifts out on the track today, split into two heats. The racing was skillfull, with some lovely drifting control taking place.
In heat one, 22 John Hillyard was the victor each round, with 403 Daniel Jordan picking up a second place, and 233 Dave Nash collecting second place twice.
In heat two, all three victories went to 203 Jack Booker, with 19 Tubs Donovan coming home in second place each round.

Taking an unusual step, the guys decided to try an All-In Final, to the delight of some and the dismay of others. But you have to try these things to see if they work, right? Eight drifts made it to the track, with 195 Peter Bowley and 46 Geoff Hughes both retiring their cars after the heats. Again, the round the track, and a hard race ensued. 203 Jack Booker was first across the line to take the win, with 183 Shaye Hunter following home a lap later. Finishing in third place was 22 John Hillyard, with 403 Daniel Jordan in fourth place and 233 Dave Nash in fifth. Thank you guys for sticking with us on this decision and giving us a good, hard race; I know feelings were mixed.

RELIANT ROBINS
Last, but by no means least, we have the Reliant Robins, always fun to watch as the guys skillfully guide them round the track and try to prevent them from rolling over, just as they do in their full size counterparts!
Heat one, round one, and 22 John Hillyard took the chequered flag, ten laps ahead of 45 Carole Butcher! In round two, 22 John took the win once again, this time eight laps ahead of 716 Nicola Want, and then in round three 22 John repeated his success to make it a hat-trick, with five laps to spare from 45 Carole. Great racing John!
Heat two, round one, and the winner was 203 Jack Booker, on splits with 173 Kenton Walker. In round two, these guys finished on splits once again, 173 Kenton taking the win this time. Round three, and 173 Kenton was the victor once again, with two laps to spare from 203 Jack. Well-done guys!
There was also some great wrecking between 19 Tubs Donovan and 195 Peter Bowley, old adversaries of the full size Robins, repeating the fun they'd had in the past at Arena Essex and Mildenhall race tracks!

As the sun sets on yet another great meeting at Brentwood RC, I've been asked to pass on a message from Mark Want, Father of 116 Luke and 716 Nicola. Today was their last meeting with us until the Autumn, and Mark has asked me to pass on his deepest gratitude to everyone who has helped him with the kids cars throughout these past Winter months; whether it's been helping get the cars running correctly, offering advice, cutting out and painting shells, or helping the kids at the track, the Want Family want you to know that they are extremely grateful to you all. Have a great Summer guys, and we look forward to seeing you all again later in the year!
Many thanks once again to Rob "Norbs" Gymer for sponsoring the Dutch Open, and many thanks to Midge and Co for yet another greatly managed meeting. We take a break now as The Brentwood Boys go off on tour to Ireland for a weekend meeting, good luck fellas, fly that Brentwood flag high!
We're back at the Cow Shed at the end of March with another weekender; Saturday 30th is Pre '70 Bangers & 1300 Stock Cars, then Sunday 31st (Mother's Day) is Round Two of the Essex Junior Banger Series (any shell, as many shells as you wish), Alloy Bangers & Alloy Super Bangers. See you then!
