UNLIMITED BANGERS AND 2L SALOON STOCKS

This evening saw the last points rounds of the season for both the Bangers and the 2L Saloon Stocks, and the guys and gals of Brentwood RC were determined to play it out till the end!  Plenty of banter tonight as usual, with the vocals of Michael Collins and Bob Beswick still echoing through my ears!  So good to see and hear everyone having such a great time.  Thankfully, the weather was a little warmer this week, so no teeth chattering tonight, except when swapping jovial insults!  And it was great to see some new faces at the Cow Shed too.

First out tonight were the bangers, with the 4 juniors in attendance joining the adults in their races.

HEAT ONE

25 Carl Maslen, 39 Jess Fuller, 109 Bobby Burfield, 115 Sonny Holtom, 116 Wayne Holtom, 176 Andy Beverton, 177 Scott “Brick” Chopping, 183 Shaye Hunter, 311 Stuart Tinker, 319 Daz Fuller, 341 Dean, 342 Andrew Gates, 515 Brad Allkins, 551 Michael Collins, 636 Martin Burfield, 841 Chris Burton, and 888 Robert Pinnell.

Battles ensued from the off all around the track, with some epic wrecking taking place everywhere!  It was difficult to know where to look!  But none of this fazed “Mr Cool”, Scott Chopping, who calmly picked his way through the carnage and took the chequered flag for all three rounds!  There were a couple of 2nd places and a 3rd for Michael, with a couple of 3rd places and a 4th pleasing Daz.  Shaye took the 2nd place in round 3, helping to widen the gap even more with his amazing points lead in the junior points, and a 4th place each for Chris Burton and Brad Allkins also put huge smiles on their faces.  Well done guys!

HEAT TWO

21 Alex Tinker, 50 Ross Mason, 51 Dan Barrell, 55 Barry Mason, 58 Darren “Ginge” Howard, 79 Mark Packham, 81 Craig “Hooligan” Cheverall, 170 Graeme “Rock” McNichol, 186 Tom O’Sullivan, 202 Freddie Bowes, 365 Russell “Sleepy” Cross, 375 Taylor-Jay Liles, 383 Darren “Divvy” Goldberg, 407 Billy Brown, 536 Scott “Knobby” Waite, 546 Kerry Goldstone, and 676 Bob Beswick.

Sleepy came in for some bashing tonight, being as he is leading the points, but still managed to pick his way through and take the chequered flag twice, with a 3rd place in round two.  Knobby managed a 1st and a 2nd, as well as enjoying some wrecking too!  Bob also went on a wrecking spree and judging by the shouts and exclamations thrown around, he got a few hard hits in too!  On top of that, he also managed two 3rd places and a 4th.  Rock managed a couple of 2nd places and a 4th, whilst Divvy came home in 4th place in round one, then went wrecking in rounds two and three.

FINAL

The final was an all-in affair, with 34 cars lining up on the grid for a spectacular wrecking/racing jamboree!  Fifty laps of sheer mayhem ensued, with some fantastic crashes all around the track!  Andy, Dan and Dean failed to make the start, and as he was still running with no transponder, Freddie took 31st place.  Andrew managed to survive for just 2 laps to finish in 30th place.  Taylor took 29th place with 4 laps, and Stuart completed just 6 laps to finish 28th.  Divvy finished in 27th place and Billy finished in 26th, both having completed 9 laps.  12 laps bought Ginge home in 25th, with Kerry coming home in 24th, just one lap ahead.  Ross finished in 23rd with 14 laps, Brad finished 22nd with 17 laps, and Barry finished 21st with 19 laps.  24 laps each for Alex and Bobby, with Hooligan finishing one lap ahead of them in 18th place.  26 laps completed for both Robert in 17th place and Carl in 16th place.  Mark completed 27 laps to finish in 15th place, Wayne, Chris and Tom all completed 29 laps to finish 14th, 13th, and 12th.  In 11th place was Martin with 31 laps and in 10th place was Sonny, also with 31 laps.  Daz took 9th place with 42 laps, whilst Knobby came home in 8th with 46 laps.  Bob was just 1 lap ahead of Knobby, to finish in 7th place, with Shaye finishing in 6th and Brick finishing in 5th, both with 48 laps.  The top four drivers all finished on splits with Sleepy having to settle for 4th place and Rock settling for 3rd.  It was so close between the top two, but Girl Power reigned and Jess just pipped Michael to the finish line to take the chequered flag and the win!  A great race guys and gals, well-done!

DD

With many leaving straight after the Final, due to a big meeting at Guildford the following day, it wasn’t such a big field of vehicles for the DD, but none-the-less, just as smashtastic as always!  Robert Pinnell was the last junior running, with Divvy adding yet another DD win to his portfolio.  Well done boys!

Next out tonight were the ever popular 2L Saloon Stocks, and with 13 in attendance, they were split into 2 heats.

HEAT ONE

58 Darren Howard, 81 Craig Cheverall, 177 Scott Chopping, 311 Stuart Tinker, 319 Daz Fuller, 551 Michael Collins, and 841 Chris Burton.

Daz had got his formulas muddled tonight and bought his 1300 Stock Car instead of his 2L Saloon!  However, he decided to take his chances and still take part, not an easy feat when you’re running 4-cell batteries against 6-cell!  This however, did not deter him, and he still managed 3rd place, 4th place and a then a win, causing much banter about other being beaten by a “lesser” car!  Michael took 2nd place in all three rounds, with Stuart taking a win along with Scott.

HEAT TWO

25 Carl Maslen, 51 Dan Barrell, 257 Paul Workman, 383 Darren Goldberg, 407 Billy Brown, and 536 Scott Waite.

An amazing double win for Paul certainly boosted his points, and his pride!  Don’t think I’ve seen anyone as surprised as he was to learn of his double achievement!  Well-done Paul, great racing, well deserved wins!  Dan took the other win of the evening, along with a 2nd place, and young Billy took a 2nd place also.  Darren had a good night too, with a 2nd place and two 3rd’s.

FINAL

Two drivers, Chris Burton and Scott Waite, retired their cars before the final, so with 11 left racing, the decision was taken to make it an all-in final.  The pace in this 60 lap race was exceptional and the racing extremely close, making this an exciting final for drivers and spectators alike.  Carl finished in 11th place with 43 laps and Darren Howard came home in 10th place with 50 laps.  Completing 52 laps gave Billy 9th place, with 8th place going to Craig on 53 laps.  Darren Goldberg completed 55 laps to take 7th place, with Michael and Dan battling to finish together on 58 laps, Dan just pipping Michael at the post to take 5th.  Stuart and Paul both finished on 59 laps, with Stuart just having the edge on Paul to finish in 3rd place, 300th’s of a second ahead!  The top two drivers both completed the full 60 laps, with again 300th’s of a second dividing them, Scott Chopping finishing in 2nd place, and an epic win for Daz Fuller in his 1300, 4-cell, stock car!  Amazing!  I’m sure I don’t need to tell you how the banter went after that finish!  Brilliant racing guys and hats off to Fuller for a fantastic finish!

Top points scorers tonight were

Bangers – Michael Collins with 45 points

Junior Bangers – Shaye Hunter with 48 points

2L Saloon Stocks – Daz Fuller with 45 points.

Another great evening came to a close, all credit to Midge and Divvy, and we look forward to returning in 2 weeks’ time for the Christmas Showdown and end of year trophy presentation.
