A very hectic evening at The Cowshed tonight, with The Battle of the Essex Giants, Brentwood RC Vs CCORC; 30 on 30 team challenge, along with Drifts Essex Championship, and then adding to the mix we also had a points round for the Robins too! The pit area was packed, with an additional marquee erected to accommodate the overspill! The banter was ten fold, not least when Midge presented Roy Childs with a dustpan and brush with his race number on! with the gauntlet vigorously thrown onto the track, we were heading into a fearsome battle! We were in for a great night of racing!

THE BATTLE OF THE ESSEX GIANTS!
Brentwood were determined to take a victory this year, having lost both rounds last year to the victorious Chelmsford team, and although the Chelmsford team were running with 2 drivers short this year, they agreed to Brentwood running with 31 drivers, rather than see anyone being turned away, in exchange for being allowed to place one of their drivers in both the Junior and Senior classes. The two team captains, Midge for Brentwood and Bob Beswick for Chelmsford had agree that the visiting team for both legs would pick the body shells, and for this meeting, the Chelmsford guys had come up with the idea of all using the Volvo 240/245 series. Agreements made, booking in and scrutineering completed, we were ready for battle to commence!

For ROUND ONE the drivers were placed in numerical order.
First out were the Juniors, 5 from each team, and we started with a resounding race victory for CCORC's Shaye Hunter, with a 5 lap win over Brentwood's Christian Barber. However, it wasn't down to who won the race, but down to the accumulated points from all drivers, and although Shaye took the chequered flag, Brentwood followed with 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th!

Next was the first of the two Seniors heats, a hectic race with the racers battling to find a gap and get through the carnage taking place all around them! First across the line was Brick for Brentwood, with Shaye taking 2nd place for CCORC a lap behind. Chris Conn then followed across the line to take 3rd place for CCORC and 4th place also went to CCORC, in the shape of Conor Harvey. Fifth place went to Josh Mackey for Brentwood, with Hooligan (fantastic to see him back racing again!) taking 6th place for Brentwood on splits from fellow team mate Alan Gray. In 8th place was another of CCORC's up and coming stars, Finnley McNichol, with Jamie Townsend taking 9th for Brentwood and CCORC Captain, Bob Beswick finishing 10th.

Brentwood also got 3rd and 5th, thanks to Dylan Ellis and Wayne Holtom, with Nathan Butcher coming home in 5th for CCORC. Divvy crossed the line in 6th for Brentwood, and Alec Quarman came home 7th for CCORC.

An 8 lap lead gave Shaye another win, with Harvey Cox crossing the line to take 2nd for CCORC too. all 5 Brentwood juniors then crossed the line, with the remaining three CCORC drivers bringing up the rear.

Shaye made it a full house in the Junior class by taking the win for the 4th time tonight! Jak finished in 2nd place for Brentwood with team mate Christian coming home in 3rd place. Harvey made it through to finish 4th for CCORC and in 5th place was George for Brentwood.

So having pulled a few more points out of the hat, Brentwood were now leading by 33 points, it all came down to this last race!
Both team captains were informed of the points situation, giving them the chance for a last minute pep talk with their teams and then we lined up the last banger race of the evening!
there was some serious racing taking place, and plenty of wrecking too! Commands were being called all around the track "Do this one! Stop that one" the air was electric! CCORC drivers took the first three places with Daz taking the win, Shaye 2nd, and Conor 3rd, but was it enough?

So Brentwood take the win by 24 points! congratulations team, you raced so well! Congratulations to CCORC too, they may have lost tonight, but 24 points is a small deficit, and they really made Brentwood fight tooth and nail for their win! Many thanks to everyone for a great evening of superb banger racing, and it's now all to play for for both teams on 2nd December at CCORC's home track in Chelmsford. Well done everybody, you all played your part!

To finish the evening off with a bang, we held the usual DD, no points towards the teams, this was just for fun for the individual drivers, although the rivalry was still evident when it was announced, 13 Brentwood drivers and just 3 CCORC drivers had made it to the track! The DD was the usual crashtastic affair, with drivers dropping one by one till we were left with 2 juniors and 2 seniors, one from each team! 115 Sonny Holtom (Brentwood) was the last junior running and 96 Wiggle (CCORC) was the overall winner! Well done guys!

I, for one, am really looking forward to the 2nd leg of this immense battle on 2nd Dec, where it has now been announced that the body shells are all to be Cortina's! Now that should be fun! LOL.

With 8 drivers qualifying for the A final, it left just three to partake in the B Final, allowing the drivers more space on the track to practice their skills and have some fun!

A fantastic win for Mr Wobbly! Great to see him winning a race for a change, rather than his usual fun tactics and normally completing the least amount of laps possible! Getting hitched has certainly affected this man! Your face was a picture when you realised you'd won Danny, proving you can race when you really put your mind to it! Let's hope we see that particular grin a little more often!

So the cream of the crop made it onto the track for the A Final, all hoping to be victorious and become the first ever Drifts British Champion! A fast paced 50 lap race ensued, with some extremely close racing!

Congratulations also to 125 Nathan Webb and 71 Dylan ellis, who lifted the 2nd and 3rd place trophies, finishing on the same lap as Daz! Great racing. Well done to all who took part, making this a memorable Championship meeting!
