SUICIDE SQUAD Vs CONDOMS - 30 on 30
In a change to the usual club v club combat this year, Paul Hunter (of CCORC) and Simon Alexander (of Brentwood) put there heads together and decided to do away with the club rivalry, and bring back the fun element to this combined club challenge. What they settled for turned out to be the most fun meeting ever created! Having both been drivers of full size race cars for many year, they decided to recreate the glory days of team racing at Arena Essex, and voted for the two most infamous team ever to grace the tarmac, The Suicide Squad and The Condoms! These two teams ensued many epic battles during the '80 and '90's, and the announcement of this meeting's concept raised a lot of interest, so much so, we had 60 drivers arrives for the festivities!

Drivers were instructed to turn up with their cars, roof fins and stickers and £8 for a pre-cut, pre-painted body shell. Once everyone had arrived, and the draw took place, with Simon using a random selector app on his phone, then the teams were announced.
​
A special mention has to go to Jamie Townsend who single-handedly cut out 64 body shells in preparation for tonight! Poor guy, his hands were so blistered by the time he'd finished, but he was still smiling, as always! Thank you Jamie for all your hard work, you're a star!

So there we have it, two great teams with a great display of drivers; and the biggest cheer of the night had to be for Paul Whiteman (of full-size Suicide Squad fame) being drawn for the Condoms! Bless him, he took it in good heart, lol. A good mixture of drivers on both teams and it worked out well with the junior racers too, four on each team!
​
Once everyone received their shell, they all set to work, adding their race numbers, roof fins and personal stickers. Then it was time to race! The plan was to mix the drivers around for each round, so they got the opportunity to race with and against a variety of other drivers, and for this reason, I'd like to say a big thank you to CCORC for loaning us their laptop and RC-Timing system, as it's much easier to swap drivers around than it is on Brentwood's BBK system. For the first round, they were placed randomly.

Congratulations CONDOMS, winners of the first leg of the CCORC / Brentwood Team Challenge!
The question now is, will they repeat their success at the 2nd leg on 22nd September at CCORC? Or will The Suicide Squad pull a few tricks out of the bag? Only time will tell! I for one, cannot wait for the return leg!
